The History Of Rap

Rap is a rhythmic speech with rhymes and poems, which appeared in the twentieth century among the black communities of the US. It is one of the five pillars of hip hop culture.
It can be interpreted with cappella and with a sound musical background, called beatbox. The rappers are known as MCs or rappers.
Rap is a musical style unusual in that the text is more important than the harmonic part, being one of only two musical styles in the history of Western music in which the text is more important than the music.
The origin of rap goes back to Jamaica, more or less in the 1960s when there were stereos, which were placed in the streets of the Jamaican ghettos to cheer dances. These dances served as background for the discourse of "toasters" authentic rappers who commented, in their speeches, issues such as violence in the slums of Kingston and the political situation of the island, while talking, of course, about issues like sex and drugs.
Eminem, stage name of Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is one of the greatest rappers. Acquired rapid popularity in 1999 with the release of the album The Slim Shady LP, which won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. His next album, The Marshall Mathers LP, became the best selling solo album in U.S. history. This fact made him known worldwide.
